How to Use the SHROOMBOX
Simple Step-by-Step Growing Guide
The SHROOMBOX is designed to make growing mushrooms easy, whether you're cultivating culinary, medicinal, or dung-loving varieties.
Step 1: Start with a Fully Colonized Block
Before using your SHROOMBOX, make sure you have:
-
A fully colonized grow block OR
-
An all-in-one grow bag ready for fruiting
Do NOT place uncolonized substrate into the SHROOMBOX.
Once fully colonized, transfer your block into the SHROOMBOX to begin fruiting.
Step 2: Set Your Temperature
-
The SHROOMBOX does not control temperature internally
-
The display shows temperature for monitoring only
Adjust the room temperature to match your mushroom’s ideal fruiting conditions.
Important:
-
Every mushroom species has different temperature needs
-
Always look up your specific species
*Pro Tip: The internal light bar (on max setting) can raise temps by ~2–4°F
Step 3: Set Humidity (Pinning Phase)
Once your block is inside:
-
Set humidity to 95%–99%
-
Set variance/difference to 3–5%
This means the humidifier will turn back on when humidity drops a few % below your target.
Optional:
-
Add ≤ 1" of perlite at the bottom to help retain moisture
-
Not required, but helpful
Always place your block on the grow platform
→ Never let it sit directly in water or perlite
Step 4: Set Fresh Air Exchange (FAE)
-
Turn the air pump (front right) all the way up
This provides the fresh air mushrooms need during fruiting
Exception:
-
If growing COâ‚‚-loving species (like antler-style reishi), reduce airflow
Step 5: Set Exhaust Fan Cycle
Use the smart controller:
Recommended starting setting:
-
20 minutes OFF
-
5 minutes ON (looping)
This helps regulate COâ‚‚ levels during fruiting
You can adjust this higher or lower depending on your grow

Step 6: Set the Light Cycle
-
Set the internal light bar to run 12 hours ON / 12 hours OFF
Default setting:
-
08:00 → 20:00 (8 AM – 8 PM)
Important:
-
The timer uses a 24-hour (military time) clock
-
If adjusting the schedule, be sure to input times in 24-hour format
Example:
-
8 PM = 20:00
-
6 PM = 18:00
Step 7: After Pins Form
Once you see pins (baby mushrooms):
-
Lower humidity to 90%–95%
-
Set variance to ~5%
Keep fresh air exchange strong:
-
For species like Lion’s Mane & Oyster:
-
You can run the fan continuously
-
BUT only if humidity stays stable
-
If humidity drops too much:
-
Switch back to interval mode
Step 8: Maintain Water Levels
-
Check the humidifier reservoir every 2–3 days
-
Keep it filled until mushrooms are fully developed
Step 9: Harvest & Reflush
-
After harvest, your block can produce multiple flushes
To continue growing:
-
Rehydrate the block between flushes
-
Return it to the SHROOMBOX
Cleaning between flushes is optional, not required
That’s It! You’re now growing mushrooms the easy way.
The SHROOMBOX is designed to handle the environment—so you can focus on enjoying the process.
